Marceau Dauboin, from South Africa, loved his experience and although he has decided on a different career path, we are reminded that often you have to challenge your comfort zone, to find what it is that you are seeking.
“I will always look back fondly at my time at NJ More campus, not only for the incredible experience of living and breathing the South African bush but also for all that I learnt about the wild & myself. I have never met a team of instructors & staff as passionate for what they do than at MORE Field Guide College.
Their passion for life, for learning and for people inspired me. It made me remember my childhood dream of wanting to help others in need and is why I have decided to change paths and further my education to become a Paramedic for the Fire & Rescue Service.
A special thanks goes to our head instructor, Mike Meidlinger, for sharing with us his love of learning & hunger for knowledge. As well as our first aid instructor and a retired paramedic himself, Andrew Miller, for reminding me that no matter what you may experience in life, that caring for people will always be worth it. He has brought better to this world, more than he realizes. It was and is a privilege for anyone to have these people as teachers and mentors even if only for a short time.
Although I have chosen a different path to guiding, I hope that this can show just what an incredible experience I had at the college. I will always be thankful for everyone that was there during those six months and for all the energy, love and passion they have given me.”
Joyce Maile is from South Africa, is inspired by nature and giving back, and currently interning at Lion Sands.
“I have discovered myself in the journey of guiding and so wish to share my knowledge of the bush with guests, as I have grown up in rural areas. A rural girl who enrolled at MORE Field Guide College currently doing my placement and raising the bar for other women to follow their passion.
It was my dream to come to Lion Sands to nurture my passion in Guiding. I have met a team that is dedicated in their various jobs. Since I have arrived, I have felt at home as the staff were so welcoming. I’m currently working hard on my driving skills to combine it with all other necessary skills when it comes to a guided experience. As a MORE Field Guide College graduate I’m happy to let everyone know that I’m shining and flying the flag high, because I’m coming from the best college for guiding in South Africa.”
