A LANDSCAPE
OF DIVERSITY

Our Origins

Honouring the MORE Family Story

From legend to legacy, our story unfolds: dedicated to environmental stewardship, knowledge sharing and nurturing the next generation of wilderness leaders.

Established in 2014, the MORE Field Guide College draws inspiration from the late Nick John More (1967–2013), a dedicated conservationist and its iconic founder. The creation of this college fulfils his ultimate wish; to continue the legacy of three generations of nature ambassadors. Committed to safeguarding the environment and sharing a profound knowledge and unmistakeable passion for the planet’s last untouched places, it goes without saying that our students are selected based on their genuine love for the wilderness, as well as their ability to ignite a similar enthusiasm in people worldwide.

College Location

Nestled within the Marataba area, our MORE Field Guide College Campus covers a meticulously managed 23,000-hectare portion of the expansive Marakele National Park. Located just 3.5 hours from Johannesburg, this region offers a breathtaking slice of Waterberg wilderness.

The landscape is striking, teeming with wildlife and boasting remarkable botanical diversity. One can spot the iconic Big Five, as well as elusive species like the critically endangered pangolin, while towering yellowwood, cedar trees, ancient cycads and lush ferns add to the allure of the flora. Steeped in history, the reserve also safeguards ancient San rock art and Iron Age sites. Recognised as one of only 500 UNESCO biosphere reserves worldwide, the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve holds a unique distinction as the sole savannah biosphere of its kind.
